Details of the new Broken Circles Quilt pattern
Hi lovely makers,
I am here today to welcome a new CocoWawa pattern, the Broken Circles Quilt! Horray! As you may know (or maybe you don't), I decided last year that in 2023 I was going to focus more on the quilting side of the business, releasing quilting patterns and, in general, sharing more about my love for quilting (you can know more about this change on my YouTube channel). I still of course enjoy dressmaking and all the garment patterns I have created; but I needed something different after almost 7 years focused on releasing garment patterns.
With the Broken Circles Quilt, I hope to continue developing a new branch for CocoWawa that started back in 2020 (yep, that year), with the release of two quilting patterns. But let's talk about our new addition, ok? :)
The Broken Circles Quilt pattern comes in three different sizes: baby (28.5''x36''), throw (44''x60'') and twin (74''x84''). This pattern offers infinite colour combinations that will transform the main block and the look of the finished quilt every time you make it. The skill level would be from advanced beginners to intermediate and advanced quilters.
When you purchase the pattern on the CocoWawa shop, you will receive an email with different files to download. You will get a booklet with a step-by-step tutorial, fabric requirements and cuttinig charts, different layout combinations, lots of detailed technical drawings and tips and tricks to get the best results when piecing curves. On the other hand, you will be able to download the pattern pieces in A4 and US Letter.
The Broken Circles Quilt is perfect if you have already done some straight piecing but would like to give a go at curved piecing as well but combined with what you have already practiced before. The block assembly is pretty quick and just the pressing will you a bit more time as there are quite a few seams to go through.
Below, you can see the first sample, a baby size, using all Kona cotton solids from the lovely ladies at Daisy Box Designs (you can find the key card on the blog).
I opted for a curvy quilting design (it was actually my first time doing this type of curves) and I am really happy about it. I didn't have much trouble with puckers (just a couple when finishing one side).
For my second sample, I opted for the throw size and these amazing and colourful fabrics from Bella Solids, kindly gifted to me by Kirsty at The Fabric Fox (find the key card for this sample on the blog).
For the back, I opted for this beautiful and colourful Tula Pink fabric.
In this case, I sent the quilt to a longarmer business called Kimera Patch here in Madrid where I am currently based. She did an amazing job and I can't be more pleased. We opted for a geometric design together and a sort of greyish-soft lilac-pink thread :)
As you can see, the design of the quilt changes a lot depending on which parts of the block to highlitght and which ones to 'hide'. You can find more alternative layouts and the key cards for these two samples, as well as inspiration from our amazing testers.
