Meet the Maple Dress Sewing Pattern

Maple dress sewing pattern

This time we introduce the lovely Maple Dress, a beautiful and feminine design featuring a loose shape, tailored or double breasted collar, flattering midi or short quarter length circle skirt and three types of sleeves. Long with the option of an elastic hem, 3/4 sleeves with cuffs and short sleeves with a keyhole and bow.

Another personalized detail of Maple is the optional ruffle that runs along the collar, which can also be exchanged for some contrasting piping. Last but not least, Maple comes, of course, with inseam pockets!

With lots of detailed instructions, technical drawings and tips to get the best results, the Maple Dress will become a staple in your handmade wardrobe.

Here you can take a look at all the options. From different lengths to different sleeves so that you can make and wear Maple all year around. You can also add a cute ruffle around the double breasted collar and lapels or piping for a cute contrasting finish.

The first version I want to show you is this cute short sleeve option with ties at the sleeves and a cheeky key hole. Sandeep, from the amazing and carefully curated fabric shop Sister Mintaka, sponsored this beautiful viscose from French fabric brand Atelier Brunette so that I could sew this version. And what a dreamy fabric to work with! This is the perfect dress for Summer for sure. Comfy and smart enough for celebrations.

The fit

Maple has a natural loose fit but if you want it to sit closer to your body, we always recommend sizing down and checking the finished measurements' chart to get a better idea of the ease the dress has. For instance, on the version below, you can see how the fit is quite loose (and comfy!). This option features long sleeves and I finished them with some elastic. You can find how to sew them on the instructions that come with the pattern. For this dress that is perfect! for Autumn and Winter, I used a beautiful brushed cotton from Ray Stitch.

Here you can take a look at all the fabrics that work with Maple:

For Autumn and Winter, go for medium weight fabrics like velvet, corduroy, needlecord or babycord, tweed, fine wool, gabardine twill, denim...
During Spring and Summer, opt for light to medium weight fabrics like cotton, also chambray, linen, twill, light denim, viscose, rayon, double gauze, cotton lawn...

Here I wanted to style it in a different way so that you could see that you can wear a cute turtleneck underneath (mine is the Paola Polo tee from Named Clothing) and tights for a cosier look. You can also throw a cardigan on top as well!

Ruffle on the collar

This last version is one of my favourite! It comes with added ruffle along the double breasted collar. I shortened the bodice on this sample (something I ended up changing in the end for the finale files) and I think it sits better. This fabric (a beautiful! tencel twill) was also sponsored this time by the amazing shop Blackbird Fabrics.

For this version I also wanted to show you how it looks belted. You can create a belt using the same fabric or you can just throw a belt and make it more fitted. There lots of different versions made by the amazing team of CocoWawa testers so that you find inspiration to make your own. Take a look!
