Inspiration for your Maple Dress

Find inspiration for your own Maple Dress

Need a bit of dress sewing pattern inspiration for your Maple Dress? You’ve come to the right place! The new CocoWawa sewing pattern is perfect to wear all year around! You can go for a short sleeve version with lovely ties for Summer or for the 3/4 or long sleeve ones to wear in Winter or Spring. Now, on this post you will find all sorts of alternatives to give you the inspiration you need to make yours.

And! again, instead of finding inspiration on the high street, we have gathered some of the versions from the amazing team of CocoWawa testers! (send us an email to hi@cocowawacrafts.com if you want to become one next time) so that you get an idea of how all the versions look.

Ready? Let's start!

Inspiration from our team of testers

First lovely tester is amazing maker Soukprida. She chose the short sleeve version in a contrast denim! How cool does the different shade of denim look on the collar as well? She finished with cute red buttons and left the hem raw.

Now we continue with Sue and her BEAUTIFUL! pink version of Maple. She has used a lovely fine needlecord which makes the perfect version for Autumn and Winter and amazing buttons from Suzy London.

Next is the talented maker and seamstress Sue and blogger for #SewOver50. Sue sent a very detailed and thoughtful feedback of the pattern and I loved how pretty her version of the dress looked. Perfect for long Summer days with cute ties on the sleeves.

We continue with the super talented sewist Sylvia from The Ravel Out. Her makes are always so colourful and happy!, just like the amazing version she has made of Maple.

Look at that snowy background and how vibrant the colours of the dress are in contrast. Sylvia opted for short sleeves and also, because she wanted for the bodice to be more fitted, she added a couple of straps to create some cute bows (very much like the ones on the Honeycomb Dress!).

I am preparing some hacks including this one with ties for the future.

We continue with lovely Andie, who was one of the testers who came forward to test the 2 new sizes added to the range. She made this super pretty version using a pink seersucker and added belt in black to make it more fitted. Oh! And she also added a cute ruffle at the bottom. Stunning!

Bàrbara is a regular tester based in Spain (all our patterns are sold in English and Spanish) and she has become a friend as well :) I knew her version was going to be spot on and that was the case!

She opted for short sleeves and added piping along the collar. There's also a version with ruffles. Apart from being a great make, I love as well the fabric she chose, so pretty!!

Now onto beautiful Brittani! I have admired her style for a while already and how feminine, edgy and cool her looks are all at the same time, and she also designs amazing patterns!

For her version of Maple she also chose a short sleeve version with ties and, like Sylvia, she added cute ties to make the bodice more fitted (the dress is naturally loose but sizing down or adding ties, you can make it fit closer to the body).

Another super pretty version is this one made by another of my regular Spanish testers. Irene is a journalist and she has used some of the CocoWawa patterns on TV! For her version she opted for this coral pink cotton, white piping and white buttons. The perfect Summer dress if you ask me!

Another regular tester (and one of the sweetest persons I know!) is amazing, beautiful Kathy. She made this gorgeous version of Maple with short sleeves and ties.

She sized down taking a look at finished measurements (something I always recommend so that you can check the ease on the garment) so that the dress was a bit more fitted. Her fabric choice was a floral viscose in navy. So pretty! (Psst. Kathy also designs knitting and sewing themed jewellery. Check it out here!).

Next on the list of super CocoWawa testers is Raquel! She is a super creative maker who loves hacking and trying new things. For her Maple she made this great version leaving out the buttons and with contrast collar which started as a jacket! I think that is a super cool hack and I am planning one to share with you soon.

When I received Katie's pictures I started jumping of joy! Katie ALWAYS! makes the most amazing makes full of colour and honestly, using the best fabrics! This version is full of happiness and all that you want on a dress. One of my all time favourites already!

I was so happy when sweet, kind Louise said yes when asking her about testing the next CocoWawa pattern! I absolutely adore her retro style and how she accessorizes all her looks with those beautiful hairclips.

Here she is wearing her tester version of Maple and wow, so so pretty! She used a fine corduroy fabric in lilac and she couldn't look any cuter :)

Another favourite is Salva's version! I think Maple looks great in denim and her version is just perfect. I believe Salva shortened the bodice (something that other testers have done as well, leading to me changing the final bodice pieces) and it looks great on her.

Lovely Erin's makes are always so dreamy! I knew she would make a great version of Maple. She used as well seersucker in a subtle grey and look at those cute hearts buttons!

The buttons in Maple are not really functional, so you can avoid them (making sure first you can actually pull the dress on and off without using them). You can also add a little hidden snap so that it doesn't gap at the top of the collar in case you are worried.

Last but not least, Camilla's beautiful! version of Maple. She has chosen such a pretty, summery fabric! It drapes so well and it looks so so lovely on her as well. Camilla opted for the option with 3/4 sleeves and cuffs.

And that is it! Hope you felt inspired and ready to make your own Maple Dress! We can’t wait to see all your versions! Also don't forget to share your makes on social media using the hashtags #cocowawapatterns, #mapledress and #cwmapledress.

Bye for now and… happy sewing!
