Learn curved piecing with our Broken Circles Quilt pattern available in three different sizes: baby, throw and twin. The colour and fabric combinations are endless, making your quilt look different each time you make it.

The digital pattern comes with the pattern pieces for you to print at home and a booklet with the step-by-step tutorial, as well as technical drawings.

The versatile Broken Circles Quilt comes in three different sizes: baby, throw and twin. The pattern offers infinite colour combinations that will transform the main block and the look of the finished quilt every time you make it.

The main block that forms the ‘broken circle’ measures (when finished) 13.5’’ (width) x 12’’ (height) and it is constructed out of 4 units measuring 6’’x6’’ each (when sewn) and with a strip of sashing running vertically along the centre of the block, in between the units. The straight and longest side of pieces A, B and D measures 5''. The straight and longest edge of piece C measures 6.5''. In the case of the samples, the inner sashing pieces have the same colour as the white ones of the unit itself.

You can easily change the design and fabric combination to make the central sashing of the block stand-out. You will also find another two pieces of sashing running in between the main blocks.

With detailed instructions, technical drawings and tips to get the best results, we hope that you will love making the Broken Circles Quilt for yourself or for a loved one.

You can find inspiration for your Broken Circles Quilt from our testers here and more information about the pattern, as well as other possible layouts and where to find fabric kits here and here.

Suggested fabrics and requirements

For the quilt top, backing and bias binding: quilting cotton.

For the batting: 100% cotton or a 80/20 cotton and poly blend.

Find the amount of fabric needed on the instructions and on the slideshow. All requirements assume a width of fabric of 42’’. For the backing for sizes Throw and Twin, you can also use an extra wide backing fabric if your usual store sells them or if you can find them online. The fabrics and colours used on the samples are for reference only. They are all Bella Solids from Moda Fabrics (find the key card on the blog.). Binding is cut on the crosswise grain.

The Broken Circles Quilt pattern is aimed at advanced beginners wanting to practice curved piecing, intermediate and advanced quilters and it comes in 3 different sizes:

Baby: with a finished measurement of 28.5''x36'', this size is perfect to use for a crib or as a decorative wall hanger. It can also make a great present for a loved one. This size requires the less amount of fabric so you can use your scraps from old projects.

The fabrics used on this sample are all Kona Cotton Solids, kindly gifted by Daisy Box Designs.

Throw: the second size is best if you want to cover part of a bed or, for example, place it on a sofa or an armchair. The finished quilt measures 44''x60''.

The fabrics used on this sample are all Bella Solids from Moda Fabrics, kindly gifted by The Fabric Fox.

Twin: the final option is the biggest we offer and would fit a twin bed. The final measurement of this size is 74''x84''.
